Dr. Bernie Siegel Patient Empowerment Contributing Expert
Born in Brooklyn, New York, Bernie attended college at Colgate University and Cornell University Medical College, where he graduated with honors. Bernie retired from practice as an assistant clinical professor of surgery at Yale University of general and pediatric surgery to travel around the world speaking to patients and their caregivers. When Bernie’s first book, the best-seller “Love, Medicine & Miracles” was published in 1986, his life became redirected. Bernie went on to write “Peace, Love & Healing,” and “How to Live Between Office Visits.” Then, Bernie’s realization that people need help dealing with all difficulties in life – not just the physical ones, inspired him to write “Prescriptions for Living” and “365 Prescriptions for the Soul.” With his philosophy of living and dying at the forefront of medical ethics and spiritual issues, Bernie continues to work on other books focused on empowering patients and humanizing medical education and medical care. Most recently, Bernie authored “Help Me to Heal”, “Love, Magic & Mud Pies” and his first children’s book, “Smudge Bunny.” Today, Bernie enjoys spending his time with his wife and co-worker Bobbie, traveling and sharing his experience and techniques with people around the world. When they’re not traveling, Bernie and Bobbie reside in Connecticut with their dog, Furphy, and their bunny, Smudge. They also enjoy spending time with their 5 grown children and their wonderful grandchildren.
