Al Gore Global Warming Expert

Albert Arnold “Al” Gore, Jr. served as the forty-fifth vice president of the United States for eight years under President Bill Clinton. Prior to the vice presidency, Gore served in the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate. Gore’s Congressional career began when he won the election to Congress in 1976. In 1984 he moved up to the Senate and was re-elected in 1990. After making a failed run at the White House in 1988, Gore was chosen by Clinton to be his running mate. The two were elected in 1992 and then re-elected in 1996. Gore was the Democratic nominee in the 2000 presidential election, running against George W. Bush. Gore won the popular vote by a small majority, but a legal controversy over the Florida election recount settled in favor of Bush.

Today, Gore is the President of the American television channel Current TV, Chairman of Generation Investment Management, Chairman of the Alliance for Climate Protection, a Director on the board of Apple, Inc. and an unofficial advisor to the senior management at Google. Gore has also set his sights on being an environmental activist. He lectures widely about global warming, a topic which he calls “the climate crisis.” In 2006, he starred in the Academy Award winning documentary film about global warming and the environment, “An Inconvenient Truth.” In 2007, Gore shared the Nobel Peace Prize with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) for his work on climate change.

Favorite Quotes and Thoughts
from Al Gore

  • No matter how hard the loss, defeat might serve as well as victory to shake the soul and let the glory out.

  • There are many who still do not believe that global warming is a problem at all. And it's no wonder; because they are the targets of a massive and well-organized campaign of disinformation lavishly funded by polluters who are determined to prevent any action to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions that cause global warming out of a fear that their profits might be affected if they had to stop dumping so much pollution into the atmosphere.

  • A president who breaks the law is a threat to the very structure of our government.

  • Our democracy, our constitutional framework is really a kind of software for harnessing the creativity and political imagination for all of our people. The American democratic system was an early political version of Napster.

  • When you have the facts on your side, argue the facts. When you have the law on your side, argue the law. When you have neither, holler.
